Is There Formaldehyde in a Keratin Treatment?


Most keratin treatments and hair straightening systems do have formaldehyde in them, however some have higher levels than others. The FDA and OSHA has placed guidelines on the appropriate amounts that can be used. Please note that there are many household products that have low levels of formaldehyde in them, and when used at these low levels they are not harmful. The amount of formaldehyde that is considered safe is less than one percent(1%), however most Brazilian Keratin Treatments contain anywhere from 2% to 12% of formaldehyde – and many of these brazilian treatments exceed the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) limits for exposing formaldehyde vapors. Yes, the keratin treatment can be applied to color treated hair, and it is highly recommended to wait two weeks to apply your color, after applying the keratin treatment to your hair.


Can a Keratin Treatment Be Applied to Children?


It is recommended for children 12 years and older.

No, your hair will revert back to its natural state within 3 -5 months.
